Serena thanks "Jehovah" after US Open...

serena williams, after winning the us open women's tennis championship tonight, thanked "jehovah" for blessing her family.

in the background were numerous us flags, and of course, prior to the match, the williams sisters were there and standing while various patriotic songs were played (oh, that's right....they were already standing since they had to walk out onto the court....guess that's okay).

while watching all that i could not help but think of all the jw youths who have been told that they could not particicpate in organized sports at school or otherwise.

to Orbiting and Guest - you do have a point about the 'not judging' stuff. But in the real world my kid has suffered because of the inconsistent application of guidelines and rules. I don't wish the Williams sisters any harm, and it's great they can make money doing something they like, wish we could all make that kind of money doing what we like. It's just that I have to deal with the real world emotional scarsleft on my daughter. It's hard to explain double standards to a teenager, especially when they are battling loneliness and trying to develop some social skills they didn't have to have in the Borg.

What was your JW Regimented Schedule?

monday: family bible study (this is when i would get yelled at for not reading the scriptures properly) .

tuesday: meeting night .

wednesday: i`m free .

Monday - prepare for school, service mtg parts

Tuesday - theo school/service meeting

Wednesday - service in the evening, or prepare for bookstudy

Thursday - book study

Friday - free, or prepare presentation for service

Saturday - service and prestudy WT

Sunday - study WT if hadn't done on Saturday, attend public talk, WT study

Add to this for the years we had the piano in the Hall, hours of practicing piano for the Tuesday and Sunday meetings. This was the part I really enjoyed. Lost a part of me when they went to canned music!

I delight in my Sunday mornings now. I love the fact that I don't have to rush away from work in a hurry and can have leisurely dinners on Tuesday and Thursdays. And I can volunteer for some community help things and not be prohibited by meeting attendance.

My youngest played tennis all four years of high school. She was not baptized, but had not made 'worldly' kids her best friends, was a pillar in the congregation as far as meeting participation, comments, fields service, conduct. She was shunned/avoided by the kids in the hall. Fortunately for her we stopped going to meetings after her first year in tennis - didn't seem to make a difference if we were there or not. She has been shunned in and out of the Organization. So when I see the Williams sisters in the limelight focusing on their religion it really bothers me. I know the Dubs are falling all over themselves because these girls publicly acknowledge their association with the Witnesses but someone like my daughter was less than a speck of dirt on the carpet. Just my two cents.....

growing up scared of Armageddon

i was just curious if any of you growing up in the truth were overly scared of armageddon?.

when my mom came into the org.

in the 70's,the only so called kids book was the paradise lost book.the pictures in that book scared the pants off me!at night when i was lying in bed,if i would hear a loud plane go over head,or there was a thunder storm,i was sure it was the start of armageddon and i would be sooooo scared.i was wondering if i was the only one overly scared,or if their were others.. also,was anyone out there extremely frightened of the demons?i would hear all these crazy experiences of people having problems with demons,and i was sooo frightened they would come bother me.maybe i was just a big old scaredycat,but if any one else has any experiences,please post them!

Armageddon was the whole reason why I hooked up the JWs. My uncle used to stop by our house and tell us that 'they took the last count for Armageddon at meeting tonight...you weren't there.' Pretty scarey stuff when you are 6 or 7 years old - we're talking mid 1960's here. I remember looking at an old Make Sure of All Things book looking for any information I could find on surviving the Great Tribulation. I was just sure I wouldn't be finishing high school before Armageddon. Everything we did was geared toward Armageddon being 'just around the corner - any day now.' It even affected the classes I took in high school. Stuck to business classes, bare minimum, graduated a semester early - because there was not point in staying in school any longer than necessary. Armageddon was coming, blah, blah, blah.....

Reconnecting with Sharon was a turning point in my life. I am so glad I could spend a little time with her before she passed away. She was truly beautiful inside and out.

Seattle - Press Conference Success - Pics

we had a total of 5 people show up, including myself, bruce baker presented the lamb, and left a press packet on the door, with copys of the new york times articles.

i got some pictures and video, and we had a reporter for the seattle times, and komo tv 4 show up, they both talked with us for almost an hour.

it was great to have a couple of people share they're personal experiences about being molested with the reporters.

M.E illness amongst jehovahs witnesses?

i have always wondered why so many jws i knew suffered from the illness "m.e" previous to being a jw i never heard of this illness but when joining the borg i noticed noticed so many jws saying all of a sudden they had m.e maybe its a jw disease trend.

anyhow what does m.e stand for.. haujobbz

If any of you with CF see a massage therapist or physical therapist be sure to tell them you have CF. There are specific trigger points in your nervous system. A person without CF may have pain and discomfort from stress relieved by massage these points but a person with CF will have increased pain and discomfort.

I have a lot of non-witness friends who have CF and/or ME. They have found eliminating refined sugars (and other highly refined foods) from their diet helpful, but think this may have to do with the immune system's response. I have always believed the refined foods compromise the immune system. CF and ME are immune system disorders so this makes sense to me.

It is unfortunate for those who really suffer from these very real diseases to hear of some using this diagnosis fraudulently to get out of living their life to the fullest. Most of my friends who have CF and/or ME live very full lives in spite of their pains and discomforts. And they don't wear their disorder as a badge of courage either. You might meet them and never know they had CF or ME.

discrimination if your fathers not an elder

its sad to think that if you are in the 'truth' that discrimination is so blatant, this works in your favour if you happen to be male and have the 'privalage' of being an elder.

as this will mean that as an elder he will probably be aware of any persons attending the kh who have had allegations made against them or convicted of child abuse.

if the 'privalaged' elder has children of his own then he is in a better position to protect his children from abuse or contact with the abuser.

A very close family member married a convicted child molester. My father, PO of the congregation, refused to tell us what crime this brother had committed, the relative would only say that he became a witness in prison and committed a crime worse than murder. We confronted my father and he told us that we were heading toward gossip and slander and could be disfellowshipped if we pursued getting the information. Fortunately this brother took us aside and told us about his past. We were then able to protect our children - he and this relative were never allowed to be alone with our children. It has been more than 15 years since this man has been in our family. We have a good relationship with him, he has not reoffended, at least to our knowledge. Our children are now young adults. My father still won't talk about this situation after all of this time. So just because the elders know doesn't mean they protect their families...at least in this case.

JW admits he OBEYS the Watchtower

a jw admits that he obeys the watchtower and uses the bible to say that we should obey them or be struck dead!.

Dad said a lot of things raising us that connected back to some of the more brutal Hebrew customs. When my sister and I wanted to pierce our ears he said he would do it for us...with an awl, just the like they did to the slaves. I think I was 14 or 15 at the time. Pretty scarey stuff. But we survived and moved on and I did get my ears pierced, not with an awl. He's still not particularly pleasant, very regimented. So glad I live hundreds of miles away!
